Announcement for Scholarships
Kiwanis International is a worldwide service organization dedicated to the improvement of the community wherever a local Kiwanis club is found. The Parkland/Spanaway Kiwanis Club is one such local club and its members are continually involved in a variety of community service projects and activities.
The Parkland/Spanaway Kiwanis Club is pleased this year to be able to provide a total of six scholarships. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior at each of the six public high schools in the Parkland/Spanaway area, i.e., Bethel, Challenger, Spanaway Lake, Franklin Pierce, Gates, and Washington. The intent of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who are planning to continue their education beyond high school by attending a college, university, vocational or trade school.
The Kiwanis Club would appreciate the assistance of the Scholarship Committeee at each school to publicize the availability of the scholarship and also to choose a worthy recipient from among those who apply.
The attached application form contains the suggested criteria, which we request the Scholarship Committee use it in making its selection. Please duplicate the application form as needed. Consistent with the goals of Kiwanis, please note that the suggested criteria reflect an emphasis on community service rather than GPA or overall class rank.
As soon as your school has chosen its recipient, please call chairman of the scholarship committee, Lou Spencer at (253)-535-1875 so arrangements can be made to present the award. A member of the Kiwanis Club will be honored to personally present the award to the young person you select, if you will let us know at least two weeks in advance as to the appropriate date, time and place. We also request that a copy of the winning application be provided to us for our Kiwanis Club records.
